The Pima County, Ariz., Sheriff’s Department is investigating the death of two Latino immigrants who were shot last night when a group of men wearing camouflage ambushed their pickup truck. Sheriff’s Deputy Dawn Barkman told local news outlets that the shooting occurred in Eloy, about 60 miles north of Tucson. He added that the victims were traveling with a larger group in a wash commonly used for human smuggling when an unknown number of men armed with rifles began firing.

Investigators responding to the shooting found one of the victims in the bed of the truck. A second was found nearby on the ground. Several others who survived were hiding in the brush nearby.

The Tucson Sentinel reported that on Jan. 27, 2007, four men wearing military-style berets and camouflage clothing shot at a group of undocumented immigrants in a vehicle traveling through an Eloy farm field. A man and a 12-year-old child were killed.

No other details were immediately available.
